Grief

The challenge of any grief process is to allow and honour the process.

If you are experiencing grief you may feel a sense of deep emotional sadness and loss of personal identity due to the death of a loved one.

You may also feel very lonely and misunderstood within your social circles as people who do not share your loss are often confused and

unaware of how to support you in your grief.

This can result in awkwardness between you and you may find yourself taking on the burden of responsibility to protect them from their

discomfort at being exposed to the depth of your feelings. This makes the already difficult process of recovery from the death of a loved

one that much more challenging.

There once was a woman who lost her child to disease. Crazy with grief, she stumbled
through the city begging for medicine to bring her child back. When she came upon

a wise man, he told her he would give her the medicine she needed. He asked her to

find a poppy from a house where no one had lost a loved on. In her quest, she found

there was not even one such home. She realized that death is a fact of life, and that

she was not along in her grief. In this way, the wise man awakened her wisdom,

restoring peace to her heart.

The Top Five Regrets of the Dying

1.    I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

2.    I wish I hadn't worked so hard.

3.    I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

4.    I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

5.    I wish I had let myself be happier.

Dr Rosemary Colston can assist you through the grieving process - both one-on-one and in a support-group context.

Please note that support groups are run only when enough participants express their interest. Individual counselling in the interim is also

highly recommended and helpful.
